My introduction to The Way Ministry came about when I had a health need many years ago. This need challenged me physically, mentally, and financially. My deliverance in that situation began as I sat down with a friend of mine at his dining room table; he opened the Bible and showed me scriptures that plainly told me that God’s will is health, healing, and prosperity for my life. This is one verse of scripture he shared with me.
III John 2:
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
This scripture reveals an important truth for us to recognize: that God’s will above all things is health and prosperity for His children.
Is that news to you? It was for me the first time I was taught this verse. I didn’t grow up going to church regularly, but I had heard and read various things about God over the years. I didn’t know that God wanted me to be in health. Furthermore, on many occasions I had heard it said that Christians ought to be poor and never wealthy, in order to stay humble in life. But that doesn’t line up accurately with this verse, does it? Here’s another verse of scripture I learned.
Psalms 37:25:
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
The psalmist stated that throughout the years of his life he had never seen God forget His people or leave them poor and destitute.
When my health problem arose years ago, it was a difficult time for me for many months—physically, mentally, and financially. Although I never thought it was what God wanted for me, I wondered how and why I went from being healthy and vital to suddenly being sick and at such a young age. As I learned from the Word of God how to believe and claim His promises for health and prosperity, in time, I regained both. God did not forsake me or leave me begging for a morsel of bread to eat.
Concerning our prosperity, the Bible plainly tells us that God’s will for His children is that they experience prosperity in their lives, and it tells us that He is the Source of His children’s prosperity. God’s Word provides the proper understanding and perspective of the spiritual nature of prosperity.
II Corinthians 9:8:
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.
God is able and He is willing to make all grace abound toward you and me. His will, His desire, is that we always—not just every once in a while, but always—have all sufficiency in all things. Prosperity is not a man-made idea or concept, but rather it originated from God. We look to Him as our sufficiency and claim the promises in His Word, in times of plenty and in times of need.
My good friend and coworker, who is a born-again believer, exemplifies this. He loves to tell people about things he’s believing for, almost as much as he loves hearing about what others are believing for. I admire the great believing he has for himself and others. He frequently recites this verse:
Philippians 4:19:
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
God wants to take care of His children, to provide the best for them, as any good father would.
Do you desire a life of health and prosperity? Would you like to have grace abound toward you and always have all sufficiency in all things? Well, you are not alone, because God wants exactly that for you. He even promises it to His children.
We have a great, big, wonderful God Who desires above all that we prosper and be in health, even as our souls prosper. As you move through life, you can claim these promises of God by walking out on them with believing. And have fun searching His Word for other promises (there are more!) that will help you receive the health and the prosperity God desires for you.
