Believing: Are You Limiting God?

Believing: Are You Limiting God?

For about a month, the gas stations in my state limited the number of gallons a person could purchase each visit. There was a shortage, so the maximum we could buy was ten gallons at a time. Soon after this ration was lifted, I saw a consumer still only buying ten gallons. He didn’t realize he could fill his tank. He wasn’t informed that there were no more limits.

Sometimes people approach God like this uninformed consumer, thinking He has set limits on how much of His resources they can receive. They don’t realize they can consistently “fill their tank” with His grace, His power, His love. God Almighty has unlimited resources available to His children, and He doesn’t ever ration them. He wants us properly informed of how willing and able He is to provide for us abundantly. Once we know this, we can believe His Word and refrain from limiting Him in our lives.

Let’s get informed about the abundance God makes available to us in the categories of His grace, His power, and His love.

II Corinthians 9:8:
And God
is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

Does God say that He is sometimes able to make some grace abound toward you; that you, occasionally having a little sufficiency in a few things, may sometimes abound to a few good works? No, absolutely not. God’s Word is clear that He is able to make ALL grace abound toward you; that you, ALWAYS having ALL sufficiency in ALL things, may abound to EVERY good work. His will for us as His children is ALL sufficiency in ALL things so that we may abound unto every good work. There is never a shortage of God’s grace for us, so we can always come before His throne of grace boldly “and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

God also wants us to know about the exceeding greatness of His power that is available to us who believe.

Ephesians 1:19-21:
And what
is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set
him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.

Does this sound like a God Who has limited His supply for His children? Certainly not! Nor does Ephesians 3:20.

Ephesians 3:20:
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

God is able to do whatever we ask or think. Oh, I’m sorry: all that we ask or think. No, I mean: above all that we ask or think. Whoops, forgot one: abundantly above all that we ask or think. Oh my, let’s get it accurate now: God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

No rationing of God’s grace; no limits on His power. Now, what does God want us informed about with regard to His love?

John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I John 3:1:
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God….

Ephesians 2:4-6:
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised
us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

God loved us even when we were dead in sins. He gave His Son for us and made it available for us to be His sons and daughters. God is love (I John 4:16), and He has promised He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

God’s love is available to us even when we may not deserve it (Ephesians 2:4). His love abounds in our lives twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It’s not portioned out according to our good works. The door to His heart is always open, and His resource of love is never low in supply.

Being informed about God’s ability to make all grace abound toward us, His ability to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, and His great love toward us, we can confidently take believing action on His Word and expect to receive His blessings. If we ever get tempted to wonder if God’s supply is limited or if our need is too big for Him to handle, we can reread the scriptures we just covered. He is always “open for business,” with an unlimited supply to cover all that we can ask or think. We need have no hesitation to claim what is ours according to God’s Word.

Let’s enjoy “fueling up” with the truths in the Word about how much grace, power, and love of God are available to us. Then let’s claim those promises. By believing God’s Word, we will not limit Him, and we will enjoy the abundance He has promised us.
